Top of the morning to you all and a happy new year to those of you I haven’t had the chance to say it to.
I hope you had a lovely break over the holiday period and you found a way to enjoy yourself in spite of everything going on.
Most of you have probably gotten back into the full swing of things where work is concerned while the rest of you are taking things in your stride. Whichever proverbial boat you are in, welcome back!
I’ll be going straight into the subject for today; goals!
Talking about goals at the beginning of the year is to be expected and it is something that I regard as very important. After all, how else will you deliberately organise your desires and resources in the definite pursuit of what you want to achieve?
The practice of forming goals is something I believe to be both wise and empowering because it helps you direct the course of your life and take responsibility for your own life. Goals are necessary things that people who want to live purposefully and be successful in their endeavours create. It acts as a guide that helps you prepare and plan for the different stages of your life so that you are deliberate in your actions and accountable for how you spend your resources (tangible and intangible).
I’m sure you already know the importance of goals anyway and how they help keep you on course towards making your deep desires a physical reality; so I’m not going to go on about that.
What I’m going to do today is propose something a bit unorthodox. Something you are not used to hearing when it comes to goals.
So here’s my proposal – that you make one goal in particular, top priority this year.
I know that suggesting to you what goal to prioritise is a tad unusual but I thought it expedient that I make you aware of this one goal that is really worth prioritising; especially in these uncertain times.
The goal I propose that you prioritise this year is; SELF-AWARENESS!
I believe that prioritising this one goal is the best service you can render to yourself. Prioritising self-awareness will help you think clearly to set meaningful goals and it will help you keep standing in the face of challenges.
Just in case you are wondering why I would be so bold as to suggest to you what goal to prioritise this year, I’ll tell you. My boldness is a result of something profound that I have been engaged in; the observation of the times and the seasons. This observation has highlighted the need for us to seriously consider a course of action that is better suited to serve us and ensure we achieve good success.
Life as we’ve always known it is changing and it is only those who realise this and adapt that will stay strong and stand out.
I’m going to go out on a limb to assume that you have a desire to make the best of the opportunities that’ll come your way this year (and yes, there will be opportunities) and that you want to see significant progress in your life. Based on that careful assumption, I urge you to make self-awareness a priority goal to keep before your eyes and to direct your efforts towards achieving.
If self-awareness is something you’ve never considered as an important thing to work on, I suggest you start looking at it differently because it is going to be a strong determinant of how you carry on in life going forward. I encourage you to please give more attention to knowing yourself so that you can lead yourself right and realise your true potential. Self-awareness is a potent underlying factor that makes your life work better on many levels and it also affects the quality of your interaction and relationship with others.
Listen dear leader, a lot of things have gone out of whack and the things we normally relied on are no longer reliable. No one knows what we can be sure of, or how things will play out but we can each decide how we respond to whatever we encounter. In order to do this though, we must give attention to self-awareness; you must give attention to yourself.
So, here’s my proposal again; make self-awareness your priority goal for this year. Give attention to it and you’ll find that your other goals are more purposeful. Work on it and you’ll discover how to remain stable in spite of external challenges.
Here’s how I suggest you get things started regarding self-awareness.
1. Write this somewhere you can constantly see: ‘Self-Awareness, My Priority Goal for 2021’.
2. Get professional help to start your self-awareness journey from someone like me who understands its importance.
The world is changing in ways that we largely do not understand and are struggling to unravel. If you could do something to give yourself a bit of certainty and stability, wouldn’t you?
To your growth and stability,
Belinda
