Universal Truth: People reveal who they really are by the things they do and how they do them.
The statement above is true for children, for young adults, and for adults equally.
Leaders are definitely no exception!
If anything, it is more true for them because of their obvious ‘frontal’ position.
As a leader, you can choose to see this truth as a blessing or as a constant thorn in your flesh that keeps bruising you and exposing your not-too-good side. The perspective you choose to have will determine how you show up and how you are seen by others.
I personally believe that the universal truth stated above can be used to your advantage if you are willing to see and accept it as an improvement tactic. One that will strengthen your character and improve your relationship with your people.
Here’s how you can use it to your advantage:
– By genuinely paying attention to your actions. When you do this, you’ll be able to determine if your motives are pure and if your behaviour is right.
Why is that important?
Because you are a key player in ensuring leadership works and produces the right results in your team and organisation.
To make that happen, you must start from the most important leadership level: SELF.
Not from the team level or organisation level, no.
You have to start with yourself; I call that self-leadership.
Until leadership at self-level is healthy and stable, its contribution at team and organisational level will remain limited. In some cases, it will become harmful.
I believe self-leadership is a good and reliable strategy for achieving team and organisational success in our constantly changing world. So, I have chosen to use it as my strategy to help leaders improve their lives so that they are better positioned to lead their teams and organisations toward good, lasting success(es).
