What To Do When You Get Stuck

Posted by B U
If you have a project, a goal, a mission, or a task to do and you run into difficulties or get stuck, first things first; "resist the urge to panic or flare up in anger!"
To be honest, things will not always work out the way you have palnned them to a 'T'. They never have and they never will. Sadly, that's the truth, so you might as well file it under the category; 'life happens'.
When you get stuck or face difficulty of any kind, don't give yourself a mental beat down or transfer your frustration to those around you. Instead, step away to give yourself space to calm down. Then retrace your steps to see what needs to be reordered or what additional resource/knowledge/help is required.
Stepping away will help you calm down and resist the urge to panic, get angry, or blame everyone and everything. Plus, it will help you think clearer because you'd have gained back control of your mind and emotions.

I know how frustrating it can be for leaders when things go wrong or when things come to a standstill; the consequences of such situations can be costly, which is even more annoying. I honestly get it. So here is my simple tip for addressing the issue of getting stuck; I call it BEA - Breathe, Examine, Adjust.

1. Breathe.
Take a deep breath in, as deep as you can…then breathe out. Repeat this two more times. If you still feel panicky, go for another set of 3.
2. Examine.
Look back on what happened; where did things go wrong? How and why?
3. Adjust.
What needs to change? What additional resource is required? What needs to be tweaked? Go ahead and make the adjustment!

Lead Right & Live Light,

Belinda
