A lot has been going on in the last few months.
I’m sure you’ll agree with me that this year–and the past couple of years really– has brought with it a few intense situations that have greatly impacted individual lives and whole nations.
We’ve had pandemics, political unrest, demonstrations, you name it.
While these events are not particularly unheard of, they have somehow managed to ‘up their game’ in recent times by affecting us on a much larger scale than we are used to seeing, experiencing or dealing with.
I don’t intend to go over the details of everything that’s been going on because I know you are well aware of some, if not most of them.
What I intend to do however, is to offer a solution and hopefully inspire you to be part of the change that will help rebuild our social systems and our degenerating society.
What is my solution you might ask? It’s leadership.
I’m offering leadership as a solution because I strongly believe leadership is a potent tool for bringing about good change and sustaining it.
However, if leadership is to bring about the good change we know it can bring, then leaders have to be fully involved. In fact, they have to be at the forefront of implementing that good change.
There is no denying it, leadership is a good and powerful thing.
But for its effects to be seen, leaders have to make it work through positive influence. Influence in their homes, in their workplaces and in their communities. Leaders have to be honest about the real issues and play their part in doing what is morally right and humane.
Whatever change we want to see, whether it’s rebuilding our economy, encouraging equality or maintaining peace, leaders need to take a more positive and active role.
it’s time for leaders to deliberately act in accordance with what is morally right. Time for them to understand leadership better and its significance in our lives and social systems. Time to honour the good that leadership represents and align themselves appropriately with it.
When this happens, we’ll be in a good position to rebuild our social systems. We’ll also be able to bring about the change that society desperately needs.
I have a few suggestions for working towards some of the changes society desperately needs.
Start by asking yourself these questions:
1. Are there conscious or unconscious biases you need to be aware of and deal with?
2. Are there negative learned behaviours you need to unlearn?
3. Is there anything you can do to make the lives of those who follow you better, going forward?
Now check your social system.
1. Is it socially responsible?
2. Are there systems and policies that truly deal with inequality and corruption?
3. Are decision makers accountable for adherence to and implementation of any good initiative that has been introduced?
I urge you to honour the values of leadership in your behaviour and actions. I urge you to use your position positively to improve lives and social systems. I urge you to be a good ambassador of leadership.
As a leadership advocate and coach,
I believe in leadership
I believe in social responsibility
I believe in collaboration
I believe in the ability of mankind to work together for the greater good.
What about you?
