The Part Of Leadership Nobody Prepares You For

Most leadership development prepares leaders for what the role demands of their competence. But it does not prepare them for what leadership does to them over time. The pressures of the role don’t only affect performance, it also affects the person performing. Their character, their values, and the clarity that makes sound judgment possible.

When Authority Remains But Weight Slips

Moral authority is not established through position. It is established through the consistency between what a leader upholds, what they permit, and what they practice under pressure. When it weakens, it does so in small moments; not in obvious, dramatic ones. And while results can keep performance going, they do not restore moral authority once it has weakened.
